Dina Wakley Fantasy Figure Layout by Megan Whisner Quinlan

Follow along as Megan Whisner Quinlan uses Dina Wakley Media Transparencies and Collage Tissue to create whimsical figures in this fantasy-inspired layout.

Instructions

Sometimes the combination of two very different images can make a new one, which is an exciting way to play in your mixed media creations. Here we created some figures with wings for a fantasy look in the Dina Wakley Kraft Journal. Follow along to see how we created these whimsical figures.

Step 1: Using some drops of Orchid and Sage Acrylic Paint across your page, spread the colors in various patches. Leave some white space on the top and bottom of the pages. Spray some Orchid Acrylic Spray along the color field.

Step 4: Using the Ultra Thick Gel Medium, glue the collage tissue winged bugs, and transparency figures down to your journal page. Layer the transparencies over the bugs to create a winged figure look.

Step 5: Spray some droplets of Black Acrylic Spray around your figures and on their bodies. Hold the book upright to allow for more drips. This will give your page a more textured look. Optional: Add some sgraffito writing on your background for extra texture.

Step 7: (Optional) Add more marks on your layers and figures with paint pens or tiny brush marks. It is fun to play with paint on top of the transparencies as they hold paint very well.
