Dina Wakley Media Muted Palette Art Journal Page By Cheiron Brandon

Cheiron Brandon shares how she creates this muted palette art journal page using Dina Wakley Media Acrylic Paints and Scribble Sticks in the 6" x 6" Watercolor Journal.

Instructions

Hi there, Crafty Friends! Today I am here to share a layout I created in the Dina Wakley 6 x 6 Media Journal. As a card maker, I absolutely LOVE the size of this journal, and it is the perfect space to try out new colors and techniques. Today, I created a layout tutorial with this small journal and all the newest pastel colors of Dina Wakley Media Paints along with the pastel colors in the newest Scribble Sticks #3 Set. This is not normally my palette, but I may just fill the entire journal with only these colors, I enjoyed working with them so much.

Step 1: Let’s get started. You will need your small journal, Scribble Sticks Set #3 and Dina Wakley Media Paints in Carnation, Apricot, Sand, Aloe, Mineral and Heather.

Step 2: On the right side of the journal spread, I wanted to create a gradient grid so it looked like the colors were blending into each other. Use the Squoval stencil and tape it off so it will create a grid of nine squovals across the page. Add little bits of paint right into the space in the stencil. (Note that I added two of the colors to some of the spaces in the stencil, so it would look like one color graduated into the next.)

Step 3: Brush the paints out with a dry brush.

Step 4: When the paint is dry, use a Scribble Stick to trace lines around each Squoval in contrasting colors.

Step 5: Pick a saying from the Collage Papers and adhere it to this side of the page with Matte Medium. Now onto the left side!

Step 6: Stencil the left side of the left page with the same colors of paint through the Xs stencil, also using a dry brush. Once the paint is dry, use the same colors of Scribble Sticks as the paints, and create a splatter. This is one of my favorite techniques with the Scribble Sticks and super easy to do. Just dip the flat (back end) of your Scribble Stick into your paint water, then use a paint brush to flick the color onto your paper. Be careful not to get on your other page (you can cover the other page with a piece of scrap paper while you do this).

To add a bit more contrast, to this page, take a sharp Stabilo All Pencil and trace around some of the X shapes. I think this really makes them pop.

Step 7: Stamp an image from the Interesting Faces Stamp set onto Watercolor paper. Color it in with Scribble Sticks.

Step 8:  Paint a Chipboard Shape (I used the Scribbly one from the Basics Pack) with Black Paint and let dry.

Step 9: Add some black paint to the left page as a ground to put your face on and adhere the face to the page using Matte Medium.

Step 10: Adhere Chipboard shape to the opposite page to finish your journal spread.
