Distress® Speckled Egg Frame by Cheiron Brandon

Cheiron Brandon just can't seem to get enough of the new Tim Holtz Distress® Speckled Egg. Follow along with her as she shows you how to make a cute butterfly decorated framed panel while sharing with her favorite Distress color combinations.

Instructions

Hi there crafty friends, it’s Cheiron Brandon here and today I wanted to share some of the fun I have been having with the newest Distress Color - Speckled Egg, with you! Today I have a fun Idea-ology Mini Frame Panel made with Speckled Egg background and have combined it with a few of the other colors from the Distress line that I like with it.

Distress® Speckled Egg Color Combinations

One of the first things I like to do when I add a new color of anything is to see how it looks with the Distress colors that I currently have. I made these little swatch cards for myself and played around with some Distress Oxide stamping to see what I liked together with Speckled Egg. I was surprised at some of the combos that I liked the best.

A few of my favorite combos turned out to be:

  • Speckled Egg and Crushed Olive
  • Speckled Egg and Twisted Citron
  • Speckled Egg and Chipped Sapphire
  • Speckled Egg and Victorian Velvet
  • Speckled Egg and Ripe Persimmon
  • Speckled Egg and Fossilized Amber
  • Speckled Egg and Worn Lipstick
  • Speckled Egg and Rusty Hinge

Today I am going to show you how I created this Butterfly Idea-ology Frame using Speckled Egg and all of these combos.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 1

Step 1: You will need an Idea-ology Mini Frame Panel, Stampers Anonymous Flutter and Field Notes Stamps, a Flourish Layering Stencil, and Flutter and Wildflower 2 dies.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 2

Step 2:  Paint the frame with Speckled Egg Distress Paint and take a panel of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock and add inky layers of Distress Spray Stain and Distress Oxide Spray Stain. Let dry.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 3

Step 3: Add a layer of Translucent Distress Grit Paste through the Flourish Layering Stencil and let dry. Be sure to rinse your stencil so the paste does not dry on it.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 4

Step 4: Stamp and cut out the butterflies and use Distress Oxides in Crushed Olive, Twisted Citron, Chipped Sapphire, Victorian Velvet, Ripe Persimmon, Fossilized Amber, Worn Lipstick, Rusty Hinge to color them in.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 5

Step 5: To color the butterflies, take each ink pad and press it onto your glass mat (or a Non-Stick Craft Sheet would work) and color them by picking up the color you pressed out with a waterbrush.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 6

Step 6: Stamp some of the images from the Field Notes stamp set onto your dried sprayed panel using Distress Archival Ink in Vintage Photo.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 7

Step 7: Cut some pieces from the Wildflower 2 dies and cut them from a piece of paper that has been inked with Crushed Olive and Twisted Citron Distress Oxides. Gather your other pieces and get ready to assemble.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 8

Step 8: Notice when the butterflies were cut, the antennae were not cut out. To solve this, figure out where you want to place the butterflies on your panel and stamp them in Distress Archival Black Soot ink. Add your greenery pieces and trim off excess from the sides of the panel, then adhere the panel to the base. Adhere the frame over the panel, then line up the cute out butterflies over the stamped images on the panel.

Distress® Speckled Egg Step 9

Step 9: Now to add the finishing touches! I added a Theories quote chip where I inked the edges with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. Then I added Hardware Heads that had been inked with Mushroom Alcohol Ink. I added a few Clippings stickers (also inked with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink). Finally, I scribbled some Frayed Burlap Distress Crayon onto my glass mat. I used a damp finger to pick up the pigment and rub it over the bumpy parts of the frame.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try out some of your favorite Distress colors along with the new Speckled Egg color.
