Create Dimensional Pages with Frames by Laura Dame

Take your journal pages to the next level! Laura Dame transforms a page in her Large Kraft Journal by layering bold cut-out frames to add depth and interest. Using Dina Wakley Media paint, stencils, and more, she creates a stunning mix of texture and color.

Instructions

Since I’ve gotten this hole puncher I have been obsessed with adding frames to my pages. They add such a cool pop to a page, as well as adding dimension. And you can still play with these even without a hole punch - just use scissors instead!

Step 1: Using gel medium, adhere a piece of typed ledger paper to a page in the large kraft journal.

Step 2: Cover the page with a light coat of white gesso.

Step 3: Apply acrylic paint to the page; here Stoked, Mustard, Cheddar, and White were used. With a baby wipe, remove some of the paint through a stencil before it dries.

Step 4: Add some collage tissue to the page using gel medium. If you use the gel medium both above and below the collage tissue, the white part becomes translucent.

Step 5: Using similar colors, add some additional stenciling to the page. Here Stoked and Carnation were used.

Step 6:  Cover a piece of heavyweight watercolor paper with black gesso and let dry. Either cut or punch squares out of the paper to make a frame.

Step 7: Add the frame to the page, along with some stamped elements and phrases using Ultra Thick Matte Gel Medium. Add some splatters to the page with a contrasting color to finish it off.
