Simon Hurley create. Ombre DIY Stellar Foam Ink Pad Card by Cassie Trask

You’ve got to be kitten me—this birthday card is too fun! Cassie Trask created this playful make using the new Simon Hurley create. DIY Stellar Foam Ink Pad and coordinating Stellar Dye Ink Re-inkers. She blended the trio into an ombré pad—perfect for stamping vibrant, colorful backgrounds like this one!

Instructions

Hi there everyone! Have you ever made your own ink pad with the colors you want? I’m so excited to share how you can do just that using the new DIY Stellar Ink Foam Pad. It’s addictive and you’re going to want to create so many varieties! Let’s get started with our card.

Step 1: Grab your three re-inkers in 100% Juice, Prom Queen, and Shooting Star, or choose colors that will blend well together.

Step 2: Start with the Shooting Star re-inker and work that into a little over 1/3rd of the ink pad. Feel free to use your brayer to work it in, but do it gently so you don’t overwhelm the ink pad with the color. The color will need a little time to soak in.  Clean off your brayer, and move onto adding some Prom Queen re-inker. Repeating that process, now add the 100% Juice.

Step 3: After the colors are soaked into the pad, use your clean brayer to add some ink to the front of your ink pad. Be cautious to keep your brayer going in only the one direction so that you don’t muddy your colors.

Step 4: Now that your ink pad is all set, trim a piece of Simon Hurley create. Stark White Cardstock down to 4” x 5 ¼”.  Use your clean brayer to brayer the colors of your ink pad onto the cardstock.  Add color as needed. Don’t worry if your cardstock shows some lines of ink where your brayer has been. That will dry back.

Step 5: Ink up the Plaid Builder Background Stamp with your ink pad and stamp that onto another piece of Stark White Cardstock that measures 4” x 5 1/4”.

Step 6: Stamp the cat and sentiments from the Purrfect Cats Stamp set using Jet Black Archival Ink. Using a waterbrush, watercolor the cat using Prom Queen and Black Widow inks.

Step 7: Die cut the cat and trim down your sentiments.

Step 8: Trim down your Stark White cardstock panels and assemble the strips onto a piece of black cardstock that measures 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. Assemble the rest of the card onto a Stark White card base.
