Stickles Tattered Poinsettia Christmas Ornament

Instructions

Step 1. First you will need to glitter the inside of the ornament. Working over a Non-Stick Craft Sheet. Mix equal parts of Glossy Accents and distilled water in a bottle with a squeeze top on it. Take the metal top of the ornament and set to the side. Gently squeeze the mixture into the glass ornament and roll the mixture to coat all the sides, do not shake, this will cause air bubbles. Pour the excess mixture out of the ornament back into the bottle.

Step 2. Roll up a piece of paper to create a funnel and place in top of the ornament. Pour Stickles Glitter into the funnel and fill the bottom of the ornament. Roll and shake the ornament until all of the sides are covered with glitter. Pour the excess glitter out of the ornament back into the container. Place the metal top back onto the ornament.

Step 3. Now for the Poinsettia. I used the clear packaging that my Sizzix Poinsettia die came in. Cut it open so it will lay flat. One half of the packaging will be red and the other half will be green. For the red half, using an Ink Applicator Tool with a felt pad, squeeze Red Pepper, Watermelon and Raspberry Alcohol inks. Tap the applicator onto the plastic while twisting the tool to get a variegated look and let the ink dry. For the green half, repeat with Citrus, Meadow and Clover Alcohol inks.

Step 4. Using the Vagabond die cutting machine, die cut the Sizzix Tattered Poinsettia die from both the red and green alcohol inked pieces of plastic. Working on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet place the poinsettia leaves ink side up. Ink up the Swirl Texture stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink. Carefully stamp image onto all of the poinsettia pieces. Immediately blot the ink off with a soft cloth. Then lightly wipe off the remaining ink to remove the stamped image. Notice how the Jet Black Archival Ink removes the Alcohol Ink from the plastic.

Step 5. Using the Vagabond machine, die cut two sets of the Tattered Poinsettia leaves from cream cardstock. Run all of the poinsettia leaves through the Xyron machine and apply adhesive to the entire surface. Adhere the plastic leaves ink side down to the cardstock leaves. This will make the swirls really pop. To get a darker edge on the poinsettia leaves apply distress stain to the back of the cardstock and the front edges and let it soak in, Festive Berries to the red pieces and Evergreen Bough to the green pieces. Wipe off the excess with a soft cloth.

Step 6. To add texture to the poinsettia leaves, heat the front side of the leaves one at a time with the Heat it Tool. While the leaves are still warm bend and form the leaves. When they cool off they will hold the shape.

Step 7. Assemble the poinsettia by stacking the leaves on top of each other and put glossy accents in the center and hold until the glue dries a little. Start with the large green leaf as the base and then stack one each of the red leaves on top.

Step 8. Add some more green leaves to the base to make it look fuller. To do this flip over the assembled poinsettia and cut up the smaller green leaves and adhere the portions to the back side of the base layer.

Step 9. For the center of the assembled poinsettia, ink the “Berry” piece of cream cardstock with a blending tool and Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink. Apply Glossy Accents to the top and cover completely. Sprinkle on Mustard Seed Distress Glitter and return the excess glitter to the container. Adhere to the center of the poinsettia using a Pop it foam square.

Step 10. Adhere the assembled poinsettia to the bottom left corner of the glass ornament using Glossy Accents, let it hang over the edges a little. Peel and stick the glitter letters “Joy” to the top right corner of the glass ornament.

Step 11. Cut a piece of crinkle ribbon 1 yard long. Lay the ribbon on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet and apply Mowed Lawn and Evergreen Bough distress stains in sections overlapping the colors. Crinkle the wet ribbon up in a ball and dry with Heat Tool. Cut ribbon in half. Use one piece to thread through the top of the ornament and tie at the top. Use the second piece to tie a bow and adhere with Glossy Accents to the metal top of the ornament.
