Hi everyone, Audrey here! I’m so excited to be back on the Ranger Ink blog again to share a quick and easy project with you for my very favorite holiday of all, Halloween. I am an absolute sucker for all things fall and Halloween and pumpkin, so today I have a super fun holiday gift tag set to share with you, made in a beautiful autumnal color palette of Distress, and reminiscent of carved jack o’lanterns and my favorite Halloween candy. Can you guess what that may be?

If you all guessed candy corn, then you would be right! I know, I know… you either love them or you hate them. But how fun are these silly tags, with their grinning faces and roly poly googly eyes? I think they’ll look great tying up some goody bags for your favorite trick-or-treaters, or dressing up a holiday package or two. And better yet, they are very quick and easy to make, even in bulk. I’ve got the complete step-by-steps to share, so let’s take a closer look.
Step 1: To begin, die cut tags from both Ranger watercolor cardstock and black cardstock using the second smallest die from the new Stacked Tags die set.
Step 2: Working on the smooth side of the watercolor cardstock, stamp a Halloween sentiment onto the bottom of the tags in Distress Embossing ink. Coat the ink in Ranger Super Fine Detail black embossing powder, and then heat set the powder using a heat tool.
Step 3: Press Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink onto a Non-Stick Craft Sheet. Using clean, clear water and a ¾” flat brush from the Ranger Artist Brush set, watercolor the top third of the tag. Next, press Fossilized Amber Distress ink onto the Craft Sheet, and watercolor the middle third of the tag. And finally, press Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink onto the Craft Sheet, and watercolor the bottom third of the tag. Mix the inks with a little more water, and flick the ink onto the tag using the paintbrush. Allow the tags to dry completely.
Step 4: Spray the dry tags with water using a Distress Sprayer. Allow the water to soak in for about 30 seconds, and then blot it up with a clean paper towel or cloth.
Step 5: Wrap a loop of purple tape, and place it behind the tag to hold it down temporarily onto the Craft Sheet. Cover the tag with a Diamonds Layering Stencil, and tape it in place. Using an Ink Blending Tool, blend Squeezed Lemonade Ink onto the top of the tag, Fossilized Amber onto the middle of the tag, and Spiced Marmalade ink onto the bottom of the tag.
Step 6: Cut ¾” off the bottom of the black cardstock tags. Distress the edges of the tags using a paper distressor. Line up dies from the Frightening Faces die set onto the center of the tags, and hold them in place with purple tape. Die cut the faces from the tags, and remove all of the inner pieces.
Step 7: Ink the edges of all of the tags with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink using an Ink Blending Tool. Sand some orange Kraft Stock cardstock with a sanding grip. Die cut scalloped borders from the cardstock using the Stitched Ovals die set. Adhere the scallops behind the bottom edge of the black tags using Multi Medium Matte. Trim off the excess from the edges, as needed.
Step 8: Adhere googly eyes to the faces using Multi Medium Matte.
Step 9: Place a thin line of Multi Medium Matte onto the top of the watercolor tags, and then adhere the black tags on top of them. Cut .5”x 2” strips of orange Kraft Stock Cardstock. Bend the strips in half. Place a small amount of Multi Medium Matte adhesive onto the back of both ends, and then adhere the tabs over the top edge of the tag.
Add a staple to the tag tabs using a Tiny Attacher stapler.
Add tags to treat or goody bags for the holiday season. Happy Halloween!
