Indulge in a sweet rainbow of colors with Lauren Bergold's vibrant cake cards, featuring Wendy Vecchi Liquid Pearls and the Birthday Bash Stamp, Die, and Stencil Set.
Instructions
Sometimes it's hard to choose which colors to work with, so why not give up and use ALL of them... because rainbows are always a good idea!
Step 1: Gather supplies: Wendy Vecchi's "Birthday Bash" and "Merci and More" Stamp, Die and Stencil sets; a selection of Archival Inks and Liquid Pearls in coordinating colors; Tree Branch Embossing Powder; Wendy Vecchi Perfect Cardstock and Perfect Card Adhesive; Distress Watercolor Paper and Ranger Artist Brushes.
Step 2: Trim a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper to about 3.5 x 7". Dispense a small amount of Wendy Vecchi Liquid Pearls onto a Craft Sheet or plastic plate and dilute with a few drops of water. Use a damp flat brush to paint stripes of each color. Samples feature Rosey Posey, Orange Blossom, Sunflower, Prickly Pear (mixed with a tiny bit of Fern Green) Cornflower Blue and Violet. Place analagous colors that blend well next to each other (The acronym R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. which stands for Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet is helpful for remembering the order of the spectrum!) and let them overlap a little for even more color variation. Continue adding stripes until the panel is filled. Set aside on a flat surface and allow to dry completely.
Step 3: Using a clear Ranger Emboss It Ink Pad and Wendy Vecchi Perfect Cardstock in white, stamp the cake from the Birthday Bash Stamp, Die and Stencil Set several times and use the Heat It Craft Tool to emboss with Tree Branch Embossing Powder.
Step 4: Using a small round brush and diluted Liquid Pearls, paint the interiors of the cakes in your favorite bright colors. Samples feature Rosey Posey, Orange Blossom mixed with a little Sunflower, Prickly Pear mixed with a tiny bit of Fern Green, Cornflower Blue and Violet. When the colors are completely dry, fussy cut the cakes, staying as close to the embossed lines as possible.
Step 5: Stamp, "Hope your birthday is perfect in every way" in Acorn Archival on a scrap of Wendy Vecchi Perfect Cardstock. Stamp the two hearts from Wendy's Merci and More multiple times, using Archival Inks that coordinate with the Liquid Pearls. Samples feature Sky Blue, Cornflower, Prickly Pear, Tea Rose, Rosey Posey and Sunflower; use the coordinating dies to cut them out.
Step 6: Trim the rainbow panel down to 3.25 x 6.75", place the birthday cake die at the center of the panel, secure with small pieces of washi tape and diecut. Repeat this step twice more, adding cake-shaped apertures above and below the first, spaced equally apart. Round the corners of the panel if desired.
Step 7: Assembly: Adhere the rainbow panel with the three cake-shaped windows to a piece of cardstock measuring 3.5 x 7" using Perfect Card Adhesive. Adhere the cakes inside the windows, using foam tape. Mat the sentiment panel and adhere it over one of the cakes. Add the design panel to a mini slimline card (3.75 x 7") made from Simon Hurley create. Stark White Cardstock. Attach a few diecut hearts around the cakes.
Step 8: Use the same ink colors and the heart stamps to decorate the flap of a mini slimline envelope, write a note inside and send to your favorite birthday girl or guy!
