Instructions
Hello there crafty friends! It’s Cheiron Brandon and I have a new tutorial for you using Distress Oxides and rubber stamps to create a fun and easy set of mixed media cards for Christmas. These would be perfect as tags too, and is something kids may enjoy creating with you.
Step 1: Gather your supplies. Today I am using Distress Oxide Inks in Lumberjack Plaid, Kitsch Flamingo, Salvaged Patina, Lucky Clover and Rustic Wilderness and Black Soot Archival Distress Ink. I am using the Tim Holtz Brushstrokes, Scribbly Christmas and Mini Media Marks stamps. And finally Distress Foundry Wax and Metallic Kraft Stock to make our cards really shine.
Step 2: Cut Distress Watercolor Cardstock panels and stamp sentiment so you know where to place the rest of your images.
Step 3: Starting with the largest images, stamp brushstrokes around card panel. Clean your stamp between ink colors. Dry with heat tool.
Step 4: Stamp circular images from Mini Media Marks set using Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide. Dry with heat tool.
Step 5: Stamp x images from Mini Media Marks set using Lucky Clover Distress Oxide. Dry with heat tool.
Step 6: Stamp scribbly images from Mini Media Marks set using Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide. Dry with heat tool.
Step 7: Stamp dash images from Mini Media Marks set using Black Soot Archival Distress Ink to add some contrast. Dry with heat tool.
Step 8: Splatter some Gilded Foundry Wax over your panels. I do this by mixing the wax with some Isopropyl Alcohol right on my glass mat and then splattering on with a paint brush.
Step 9: Heat the spatter with a heat tool (I also cover my greeting with a piece of scrap paper to prevent getting splatter on it).
Step 10: Take a panel of Metallic Kraft stock and use a blending tool with a sanding disk to Distress the edges.
Step 11: Adhere your stamped panel to the Metallic Kraft Stock, then adhere the panel to a piece of black cardstock and mount onto card base.
I hope you had fun creating these cards with me today. I love the simplicity of creating a fun piece of mixed media art to put through the mail.
