Hello there, creative friends! It’s Cheiron Brandon and I am back with another tutorial using Tim Holtz products. I don’t know about where you live, but it sure seems to be turning into fall where I am in New Jersey. This month, I wanted to play around with the new Distress Watercolor Pencils and create a set of Mini Blueprint notecards which are perfect to add to any fall treats…I love to surprise my friends and family with gift cards for fall beverages, fall baked goods, or even some pumpkin beer, and these little notes would be the perfect accompaniment to any of those things.
To begin, you will want to gather your supplies. I have Distress Watercolor Pencils (I am using pencils from all 3 sets), Distress Watercolor Cardstock, Distress Archival Ink in Black Soot, and also some Distress Ink Pads in my favorite fall colors. For this set, I went with: Fossilized Amber, Crushed Olive, and Spiced Marmalade. Today we are going to make 3 cards, but feel free to substitute cutting 3 of everything to cut as many (or as few) as you like! The best part of these new pencils is that they coordinate with all the colors of Distress products you already know and love!
Step 1: Cut 4 panels to 2 ¾ x 3. Color each of them with Distress Ink by pressing your ink down onto a Non-Stick Craft Sheet, spraying the ink with a few sprays of water, and picking up the ink. Dry with a Heat Tool.
Step 2: Repeat by picking up the ink and drying in between layers. Set the panels aside.
Step 3: Stamp the blueprint images that you want to color onto another panel of Distress Watercolor Cardstock cut to 2 ¼ x 2 ½ using Distress Archival Ink in Black Soot.
Step 4: To color the image, add the color using a Distress Watercolor Pencil. Follow the shading already drawn on the blueprint images.
Step 5: Blend out the color using a detailer waterbrush. Let dry or dry with a Heat Tool.
Step 6: If you want more concentrated color in certain areas, use your waterbrush to pick up some pigment directly from the tip of the pencil and apply it to your image. Let dry or dry with Heat Tool.
Step 7: Ink edges of stamped panels with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. Then mat the images onto a piece of black cardstock cut to 2 3/8 x 2 5/8.
Step 8: Ink the edges of the Distress Ink Panels with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.
Step 9: Stamp the greeting onto a piece of Distress Kraft Heavystock measuring 3 ½ x 4 ½, adhere to folded notecard of the same size, and add the stamped image to the card using foam tape.
