5 Ways to Use Simon Hurley create. Stencils

Jess Francisco shares 5 creative ways to use Simon Hurley create. Stencils to create backgrounds for card making and other paper craft projects!

Instructions

Simon Hurley create Dye Ink Pads Step 1

Ink Blending: To start things off, choose three colors from Simon Hurley's new line - Simon Hurley create. Using Overzealous, Remember Me, and Triple Berry and the Mini Ink Blending Tool and Replacement Foam Pads, blend each color, overlapping each one to get a cool blend of the colors where they met.

Simon Hurley create Stenciling 101 Embossing

Embossing: Place your stencil over the card stock you'd like to use. Treat your surface with an anti-static powder tool to prevent embossing powder from sticking where you don't want it. Using the Embossing Dauber, pounce on the sticky ink. Be sure to get ink into all of the nooks and crannies so that your stenciled image is crisp. Apply Embossing Powder to the inked area over a scrap paper or coffee filter for easy clean up. Tap off the excess powder and then use a Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder.

Simon Hurley create Stencil Sticky Embossing Powder and Foil

Sticky Embossing Powder + Foil: Place your stencil over the card stock you'd like to use. Immediately apply a piece of transfer foil and lightly smooth it over the warm powder. Don't press too firmly as the design can get displaced. Once it has cooled, you can run harder to ensure the foil transfer completely. Remove the excess foil and check out your foiled background!

Simon Hurley Stencil with Colorized Ranger Texture Paste

Texture Paste + Simon's Dye Inks: Start by scooping some of the opaque texture paste out of the jar with a palette knife or similar tool. Apply this directly to your craft mat. Take your Triple Berry Dye Ink Pad and smear it directly on your craft mat. Spritz the ink with water using the Distress Sprayer or Mister. Mix the texture paste and the ink together until all of the color is incorporated and you have an even mixture. Layer the stencil over your card stock and apply the colored paste directly to your stencil. Be sure to cover the area generously and evenly for best results. Remove the stencil carefully and wash immediately with water so the paste doesn’t dry on your stencil. Set your background aside to dry.

Gel Printing Plates: Choose the size gel plate that works best for your project. Apply acrylic paint directly to the gel plate and use the small brayer to roll the color on evenly. Lay your paper on top of the painted area and smooth it on to the gel plate. Gently peel the paper off of the gel plate to ‘pull’ your first print. Next, add a coat of acrylic paint in another color and smooth it with the brayer. Layer a stencil on top of the paint while it’s still wet and immediately put your original print on top. Smooth this out and press evenly across the whole paper to ensure it transfers. Peel the paper from the gel plate. The pattern of the stencil will now be transferred to your painted background. Experiment with different layering techniques and color combinations to get different results every single time!
